Solid Oil lubricated SKF bearings are designed for use in applications where high humidity or contact with water and environmental contaminants pose problems for bearing durability. These factors, along with inadequate lubrication, are responsible for a significant portion of premature bearing failures, which can be prevented with Solid Oil lubrication. The Solid Oil lubrication method is based on a lubricating oil added in solid form inside the bearing. Bearings that contain Solid Oil are lubricated for their entire lifespan, and thus do not require re-lubrication during their operational life.

Solid Oil is a solid polymer matrix saturated with lubricating oil that completely fills the free space of the bearing and covers the cage and rolling elements. This design prevents moisture and impurities from entering the bearing, and also prevents lubricant from leaking out of the bearing even during cleaning. The polymer matrix acts as an oil reservoir, releasing the necessary amount of oil to the rolling surfaces of the bearing during operation, ensuring efficient and optimal lubrication for the bearing throughout its lifespan. The Solid Oil lubrication solution is available for the most common ball and roller bearings, as well as bearing units. Solid Oil can be identified by the W64 suffix in the bearing designation. Solid Oil is also available in food-grade formulations.
